London Group of Historical Geographers

Description

The London Group of Historical Geographers was originally established in 1981 by historical geographers in the university colleges and polytechnics of the London region, and since 1989 it has organised fortnightly themed seminars across three terms of the academic year at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London. The Group brings together scholars and practitioners from across the arts, humanities and social sciences to examine geographical themes across a range of historical periods, and the seminar's themes have ranged across empire and decolonisation, oceanography and topography, indigeneity and identity, and archives and collections. Seminars run on Tuesday evenings, in person with online access or online only. The seminar is convened by historical geographers at Royal Holloway, University College London and Queen Mary University of London, and acknowledges the support of several universities, the Historical Geography Research Group of the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) and the Institute of Historical Research.
