Islamic Archaeology Research Network
ActiveDescription
The Islamic Archaeology Research Network aims to encourage collaboration, promote research and generate new agendas amongst researchers working on the Islamic world at the UCL Institute of Archaeology and beyond. It provides an umbrella under which to group and publicise the Institute's existing research, workshops and events on the Islamic world, and aims to attract research students and postdoctoral researchers to the Institute in this field. In collaboration with colleagues at SOAS it runs an annual Islamic Archaeology Day, co-organised by SOAS and UCL, as well as other thematic research-driven events; the most recent Day was held on 31 January 2026. Its research themes for 2016 to 2019 were Islamic states and rulership, comparative Islamic urbanism, and technology, craft and making, and it keeps a mailing list for those interested in its work.
