Digital Humanities Game Lab (DHGL)

Description

The Digital Humanities Game Lab (DHGL) is a research group based in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at King's College London that researches digital games and gaming as a core aspect of digital culture, asking how digital games shape being in the world and how this could be otherwise. It brings together researchers, practitioners and students interested in digital games through a programme of events and research initiatives, including Critical Gaming Nights at which games are played and critically discussed.

Its stated aims are to provide a laboratory space for critical play and discussion of digital games, to run a seminar and workshop series on current digital games research, to connect digital games researchers at King's and internationally, and to let students play the games discussed on their modules. The lab manages a permanent gaming room on the Strand campus, with consoles, gaming laptops and a growing games library that students and researchers can book, and its events since November 2024 have included talks, workshops and, in 2026, an event on playing gender in historical games.
