Music and Acoustics Research Centre (MARC)

Description

The Music and Acoustics Research Centre (MARC) is a cross-faculty community of researchers at King's College London working on the sciences and technologies of music and sound. Its areas of work are audio and acoustics, music computing, and applications in bioengineering and medicine, and its members come from ten departments across four faculties, including Music and Digital Humanities alongside engineering, informatics, mathematics, biomedical engineering and psychiatry.

The centre brings together five laboratories: the Audio Laboratory, the Machine Listening and Generative Audio Lab, the Music Theranostics Laboratory, the Voice and Speech Processing for Health Group, and the Music Computing Laboratory (MCL@KCL). The Music Computing Laboratory was founded in 2025 to bring together staff and students across departments who work on sound and music computing, and it is also affiliated with the Computational Humanities Research Group. MARC runs a seminar series, held an open day in 2026, and in December 2025 hosted the twentieth Digital Music Research Network workshop.
