Cold War Studies Project, LSE (CWSP)

Description

The Cold War Studies Project is based in the Department of International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science and is devoted to the history of the Cold War. Drawing on primary sources from archives in both the West and the East, it examines questions including the rise and fall of the bipolar order and how the conflict shaped the Third World. It hosts the journal Cold War History, co-edited with other European centres and published by Routledge, and it runs public lectures and events and a fortnightly podcast on Cold War history. With the George Washington University and the University of California, Santa Barbara, it organises an annual International Graduate Student Conference on the Cold War that rotates between the three institutions and was held at LSE in May 2026. Cold War studies at LSE sat within LSE IDEAS from 2004 to 2021, before this work continued in the Department of International History.
