The Choreographic Research Unit is a research unit in the Art Department at Goldsmiths, University of London, set up in 2016. It takes as its subject choreography, the making of dances through movement, bodies and their surroundings, and responds to the way contemporary art has taken up choreographic forms in recent years, changing training, exhibition and collecting in the visual arts. Members and invited guests from choreography and post-dance backgrounds test approaches to making and producing work, looking at how a piece unfolds over time and how bodies work together within it. It lists 28 members at Goldsmiths and six elsewhere, alongside an advisory board. Its ongoing project, cinematochoreography, stages encounters between people working in choreography and in cinematography, the first three of which took place in summer 2025.
