LSE Financial History Group (FHG)

Description

The LSE Financial History Group is a research group founded in 2024 and sponsored by the Department of Economic History at the London School of Economics and Political Science. It draws together LSE researchers looking at money and finance from a historical and interdisciplinary angle, with members based in economic history, finance, international relations, accounting, economics and international political economy. Between them they look at financial markets and investment, financial crises and cycles, monetary policy and exchange rates, government debt and default, and the regulation of banking, across periods stretching from the Middle Ages to the present day. The group holds an annual research workshop, most recently in June 2026 on the financial history of war and peace, alongside occasional conferences and public events, and its members teach monetary and financial history, including on a dedicated MSc in Financial History.
