Iranian History Initiative (IHI)

Description

The Iranian History Initiative is a research group in the Department of International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science, formed in 2024 to support research on the modern history of Iran and the wider Persianate world. It brings together LSE academics and research students working on this history from the sixteenth century to the present, from Safavid Persia and Mughal India to Qajar Persia and Pahlavi Iran. Its stated aims are to support research, teaching and public engagement in the field at LSE, to encourage cooperation among historians of Iran in the UK and Europe, to host lectures, workshops and conferences, and to support doctoral and early-career researchers. It runs a named lecture series it describes as annual, held in 2023 (a year before the Initiative was formed), 2024 and 2026, and it invites expressions of interest for non-stipendiary visiting fellowships and promotes a donor-funded PhD scholarship in Iranian history awarded by the department.
