The Courtauld Gallery
ActiveDescription
The Courtauld Gallery at Somerset House in London is the art museum of The Courtauld, which was founded in 1932. It reports that its collection holds over 33,000 objects from the Middle Ages to the twenty-first century, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and decorative arts, and it describes itself as particularly known for its Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. Its curators hold research posts, including endowed curatorships in drawings and in twentieth-century art, and lead research projects such as an online scholarly catalogue of the paintings and a catalogue of the Flemish drawings. The gallery runs a conservation programme, temporary exhibitions and a public programme of talks, short courses and school visits, drawing on the Institute's work in art history, conservation and curating, and the whole collection can be searched online.
