Troon @ Ayrshire Family History Society researches, transcribes, indexes and publishes primary source material for family and local history across the parishes of South Ayrshire. Founded in 1989 as Troon and District Family History Society, it publishes around seventy titles covering monumental inscriptions, old parish register death and burial records, census transcriptions and rolls of the war dead, grouped by parish and area. It maintains a cumulative surname index drawn from its own gravestone transcriptions, covering thirty cemeteries and more than 13,000 entries, and keeps a reference collection of family histories, local history works and other societies' journals available to members on request. Members meet monthly in Troon from September to June, and the society circulates its own journal three times a year.
