The Trimontium Trust

Active

Description

The Trimontium Trust runs the Trimontium Museum in Melrose, which collects, conserves and interprets archaeology of the Roman Iron Age from the Newstead fort and the landscape around it in the Scottish Borders. The Trust traces its origins to the mid-1990s and was reconstituted as a Scottish charitable incorporated organisation in 2020. Alongside the museum it has run a long-standing battlefield archaeology and metal detection survey at Burnswark Hill in Dumfriesshire, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and published in a peer-reviewed conflict archaeology journal in 2025, with the current field seasons carried out in collaboration with a University of Glasgow archaeologist. The Trust also runs a programme of lectures and guided walks, and hosts finds days with the national Treasure Trove unit.
