Lanark and District Archaeological Society (LADAS)

Active

Description

Lanark and District Archaeological Society (LADAS) is a local archaeological and heritage society founded in 1974 for the Clydesdale area of South Lanarkshire. It runs a lecture programme from September to May at St Nicholas Church Hall in Lanark, undertakes field-walking and the processing of finds, organises visits, works with schools and trains volunteers, and holds a collection of artefacts, books, photographs and documents relating to the area's communities.

Under the name Clydesdale's Heritage it publishes an online collection of articles, documents, maps and postcards, browsable across thirty-two localities of Clydesdale, and it has two books in preparation. Between 2000 and 2022 it received six National Lottery Heritage Fund awards, the largest in 2009 for a project titled Discovering Clydesdale's Heritage. Members attend its talks free of charge.
