Hawick Archaeological Society

Active

Description

Hawick Archaeological Society is a local historical and antiquarian society for Hawick and its district in the Scottish Borders. Formed in 1856 and a registered Scottish charity since 1945, it describes itself as one of the oldest historical societies in Scotland. Its central output is an annual volume of Transactions, published since 1856, with the digitised back-run available to members on the society's website after a digitisation project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It runs a winter lecture season from October to March at Hawick High School, sells locally written history titles through its own bookshop, supports the local museum it originally founded, and undertakes occasional archaeological work and the upkeep of local historic sites. Membership is by annual or life subscription.
