Scotland's Futures Forum

Active

Description

Scotland's Futures Forum is the futures think-tank of the Scottish Parliament, founded in 2005. Working across party lines rather than for any one of them, it commissions research and hosts debate about the challenges and opportunities Scotland will meet over the decades ahead, through events, commissioned essay series and research projects. It is formally constituted as a company limited by guarantee wholly owned by the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body, which provides all of its funding, and is governed by a board of nine directors drawn from members of the Scottish Parliament and from civic Scotland.

Its arts and humanities work runs through a recurring strand on artificial intelligence and democracy, covering deepfakes and democratic trust, parliamentary scrutiny of artificial intelligence, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in schools. Alongside this it has examined culture and democracy, arts participation and civic engagement, and its Scotland 2030 programme of 2017 to 2020 commissioned essays and a short story competition on Scotland's long-term future.
