Digital Humanities at Glasgow

Description

Digital Humanities at Glasgow is the University of Glasgow's coordinating presence for digital humanities research, bringing together work from across the College of Arts and the University's collections services. It is coordinated by a steering group of three, which includes a dedicated digital humanities research officer post, and it maintains a catalogue of the University's digital humanities projects that can be browsed by subject area, by keyword and by funder.

The catalogue holds eighty-seven projects drawn from thirty-eight funders. Its subject areas span thirteen categories across five University units: English language and linguistics, English literature and Scottish literature in the School of Critical Studies; history of art, music, and theatre, film and television studies in the School of Culture and Creative Arts; Celtic and Gaelic, history and information studies in the School of Humanities; French and German in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures; and archives and special collections and the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery under University Services.

The methods it describes and indexes include textual analysis, document encoding and digital editing, digitisation and transcription, the building and querying of structured datasets, corpus linguistics, pattern searching across text, image and sound, mapping, and data visualisation. Among the projects it gathers are a catalogue of the work of James McNeill Whistler, the People of Medieval Scotland database, Scottish text and speech corpora, and a study of Berwickshire place-names. It also publishes a weekly log of its technical development work.
