Centre for Argument Technology, Dundee (ARG-tech)

Active

Description

The Centre for Argument Technology (ARG-tech) at the University of Dundee researches argument technology, the computational analysis and support of human argument and debate. Its work takes its theoretical foundation from philosophy, linguistics and cognitive science, and applies it to argument mining, the automatic identification of argument structure in text and speech, and to infrastructure and tools that support reasoning, deliberation and public debate.

The centre has long-running collaborations with IBM and with the BBC, the latter including work on argument drawn from broadcast debate programmes. Its projects have been supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, by European research programmes and by charitable foundations, and its research has produced a spin-out company.
