Description

Articulate Instruments Ltd develops instrumentation and software for speech and phonetics research from the Queen Margaret University campus at Musselburgh. The company originated in electropalatography research licensed from Queen Margaret University and supplies ultrasound tongue imaging systems, electropalatography hardware and the Articulate Assistant Advanced software used by speech laboratories internationally.

Alongside its commercial work it carries out and publishes its own research on speech imaging and analysis, including deep-learning approaches to tongue contour estimation, and it releases open-licensed research datasets. Its software and data formats are documented and built on by phonetics groups beyond the company, including at other United Kingdom universities.
