Centre for Creative and Social Informatics

Description

The Centre for Creative and Social Informatics is a research centre in the School of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment at Edinburgh Napier University, based at the Merchiston campus. It studies the relationships between people, communities, organisations and technology, working through methods including speculative design, social media analysis and physiological data, and grounds its approach in constructionism and learning through doing. The research areas it lists are interactive audio; creativity, sustainable user experience and design; human-robot interaction; digital literacies and technology impact; human information behaviours and practices; social rights, access and education; games and immersive experience production; information governance and ethics; and generative media and artificial intelligence.

The centre is a member of the international iSchools network and takes part in European, national and local research programmes. Its members work on the Creative Informatics partnership between Edinburgh Napier University and the University of Edinburgh, funded under the Creative Industries Clusters Programme, and on a European project on telepresent dance carried out with partners in Germany, Finland and Ireland.
