Inequalities and Social Welfare Research Centre
ActiveDescription
The Inequalities and Social Welfare Research Centre brings together interdisciplinary research on how poverty, inequality and social exclusion shape people's lives across local, national and global contexts. Members examine social welfare through diverse lenses, including childhood and family life, care and social justice, migration, gender, labour markets, household resources, corporate power, and the role of welfare states. Using rigorous qualitative, quantitative, comparative and creative methods, the Centre produces research that advances understanding and informs policy, practice and public debate.
Based in the School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol, the Centre works across a wide range of disciplines and policy areas. Its members seek to provide an integrative perspective on poverty, inequality and social exclusion and the mitigating role of welfare states, and to understand and improve the everyday lives of children, young adults and families, including those who are care-experienced. The Centre's interdisciplinary work draws on national and international collaborators and funders, and on a long-standing record of engagement with policy makers, government bodies, voluntary organisations, charities and non-governmental organisations.
