Data Ethics Club
ActiveDescription
Data Ethics Club is a discussion and reading group, run as a journal club, that examines the ethical questions raised by data science and artificial intelligence. Founded in 2021 and hosted by the Jean Golding Institute at the University of Bristol, it meets monthly online during term time to discuss a short reading, such as a blog post, book excerpt, paper or podcast, paired with open discussion. Its sessions engage critical and humanities-informed perspectives, from decolonial and feminist approaches to data to bioethics case studies and the philosophy of science, alongside the practical concerns of working data scientists. It has published a peer-reviewed paper describing its model and shares its materials, including meeting templates and a code of conduct, so that others can set up similar groups.
