Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People (GMCDP)
ActiveDescription
Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People (GMCDP) is a disabled people's organisation, run and controlled by disabled people, campaigning since 1985 for the rights and inclusion of disabled people and for the social model of disability. It convenes the Greater Manchester Disabled People's Panel, runs a peer support project for disabled residents of Manchester, and campaigns on issues including social security, accessible housing and inclusive education. It established and maintains the Disabled People's Archive, a collection of documents, photographs, recordings, banners and campaign materials charting the history of the disabled people's movement, held at Manchester Central Library through the Archives+ partnership and partly accessible online, with an active cataloguing programme supported by a Cataloguing Grant from The National Archives. Membership is open to disabled people, with non-disabled allies welcomed as associate members, and the organisation is led by members through an elected executive.
