Proboscis
ActiveDescription
Proboscis is an independent, artist-led studio and non-profit organisation based in London, founded in 1994. Working at the intersection of art, technology and society, it has developed long-running programmes on civic agency, public authoring, environmental data and self-publishing, including the bookleteer platform and the Diffusion eBook format. In 2005 it became the first artist-led organisation to be granted Independent Research Organisation status by Research Councils UK, and it went on to partner in research funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council with universities including Oxford, Nottingham, Cambridge and Royal Holloway. It closed its physical premises in 2015 to operate virtually.
