Code The City
ActiveDescription
Code The City is an Aberdeen-based charity, founded in 2014, that uses technology and open data for civic good. It runs themed hack weekends, monthly data and coding meetups and the annual Scottish Open Data Unconference, convening volunteers, developers and community organisations. Alongside its wider civic-technology and open-data work, it runs a recurring digital-heritage strand, partnering with galleries, libraries, archives and museums including Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums, the National Library of Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland to transcribe historical records and create open cultural-heritage datasets, including a citizen-history project on Aberdeen's 1914 to 1920 harbour arrival ledgers. Several of its events have been hosted by the University of Aberdeen.
