Digital Speech Lab

Active

Description

The Digital Speech Lab is a research lab at University College London, in the Department of Political Science, studying the ethical, legal and political principles that should govern online speech and the moderation of content on digital platforms. It brings together political philosophy, ethics, the philosophy of language, law, social science and computer science to develop principles for the regulation of online speech by platforms, governments and civil society. The lab advises technology companies, regulators and policymakers, including through evidence to government and regulatory bodies, and runs a Digital Civics programme teaching responsible online citizenship in schools. It is led from UCL and funded through a UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship.
