EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence (iGGi)
ActiveDescription
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence (iGGi) is a doctoral training centre for games research, based at the University of York with Queen Mary University of London, Goldsmiths, University of London, and the University of Essex. It trains PhD researchers across the breadth of games, bringing together engineering perspectives such as artificial intelligence, data science and game-making with humanities and behavioural science perspectives such as human-computer interaction, psychology, design and game studies. Its research spans themes including game AI, game design and development, immersive technology, game audio, esports, applied games, creative computing, player research, accessibility and game data. Doctoral students undertake four-year PhDs alongside industry placements with a large network of games studios, industry bodies and cultural organisations. The centre was first funded by UK Research and Innovation through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in 2014; its final cohort was recruited in 2023, and current researchers continue through the programme.
