Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research (BCMCR)

Description

The Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research produces distinctive, collaborative research within the field of media and cultural studies.

The Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Studies brings together academics involved in research aimed at understanding how communities and cultures emerge through the use of communication technologies.

The work conducted at the centre is as likely to engage with new and emerging technologies as it is historical examples of cultures built around traditional media. The centre explore the ways in which groups interact and weave a culture out of communication technologies, and it uses that knowledge to help professional, commercial and community bodies extend their work online. The centre has six research groups including Popular Music Studies; Screen Cultures; History, Heritage and Archives; Journalism, Activism and Community; Creative Industries; and Jazz Studies.
