Oxford e-Research Centre
ActiveDescription
The Oxford e-Research Centre is a multidisciplinary data science research and education institute, part of the University of Oxford's Department of Engineering Science. Founded in 2006 and based at 7 Keble Road, Oxford, the Centre researches and implements innovative digital methodologies, information and computational solutions for academic research and industrial applications. It provides an environment for over 50 staff, including academics, students, data scientists, postdocs, and professional research software and knowledge engineers, who work together on interdisciplinary projects. Its expertise spans data science domains and technologies, with work delivered across the physical sciences and engineering; the arts, humanities and social sciences; energy and environment; the biological and medical sciences; and the information and library sciences. Work is organised into research themes that include Digital Humanities, Language Modelling, Visual Analytics, Scientific Computing, Data Management and Reproducibility, and Scholarly Publishing and Communication.
In the digital humanities the Centre combines computing and digital technologies with the disciplines of the humanities, both applying digital resources to humanities research and subjecting technology to humanistic questioning; it runs the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School, which offers training to academics at all career stages, students, project managers, and people working in IT, libraries and cultural heritage. The Centre also hosts an AI Competency Centre providing AI and machine learning training, tools and consultancy across the collegiate University. Follow the centre on Bluesky, LinkedIn and YouTube.
