Centre for Blended Realities
ActiveDescription
The Centre for Blended Realities (CBR) is a research centre at Falmouth University working at the intersection of creativity and technology. It undertakes interdisciplinary, practice-led research and knowledge exchange using emerging and convergent technologies, including immersive, interactive and data-driven media and emerging AI. The Centre develops and tests methodologies for immersive and interactive media; investigates performance and audience interaction, the digital avatar in performance, storytelling and play, spatial audio, virtual, augmented and mixed reality, and immersive heritage documentation; and supports regional development across Cornwall and the wider South West by working with academic, industry, cultural and third-sector partners in the creative industries. It runs professional-grade immersive-media facilities on Falmouth's Penryn Campus, hosts research projects (including Transversal Imaginaries, GWITHA, Varyon VR, Spatial Audio Journalism, Mixed Reality and Online Orchestra), publishes the annual BLEND Almanac, and supervises MPhil and PhD research degrees, including a joint peacegaming venture with the Games Academy. The Centre is funded through the Expanding Excellence in England (E3) programme.
