Computational and Digital Archaeology Laboratory, Cambridge
ActiveDescription
The Computational and Digital Archaeology Laboratory (CDAL) is a laboratory in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Cambridge. It brings together researchers at doctoral, post-doctoral and faculty levels who develop and apply computer-based analytical methods for the study of the archaeological record and the human past. Members work with geographic information systems, agent-based simulation, network analysis, spatial statistics, remote sensing, and digital support for fieldwork tasks. Research ranges from the detection of archaeological sites through remote-sensing analysis to the modelling of ancient routes and the computer simulation of cultural transmission of pottery decorative styles. The laboratory draws on the University's High Performance Computing Service, curates a set of computational archaeology resources, and runs regular activities including a fortnightly journal club, method bootcamps, and a seminar series featuring international speakers.
