Description
The British Animal Studies Network (BASN) brings together researchers studying human-animal relations across the humanities and social sciences in the UK and beyond. Established through ten meetings held in central London between 2007 and 2009 with the support of the AHRC and Middlesex University, the network was re-launched in May 2012 with the financial support of the University of Strathclyde. BASN holds regular themed meetings (hosted at Strathclyde and at partner universities across the UK) designed to enable sustained interdisciplinary conversation on topics such as care, violence, loss, emotion, and conservation. Meetings deliberately include speakers from a wide range of disciplines, from all career stages, and from inside and outside academia, including animal welfare charities, museums, NGOs, and artists. Audio and video recordings of many papers are made available on the network's website, which also hosts a living bibliography and supports the Glasgow Animal Studies Reading Group.
