Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI)

Active

Description

The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) is the only UK-based independent professional membership association for practising translators, interpreters and all those involved in the language services sector. Founded in 1986, it has over 2,700 members in the UK and internationally. It serves as a professional home and community for translators and interpreters, connecting professionals to share expertise, support one another, and champion the human value of translation and interpreting in society and the economy. The association represents the interests of its members and the industry, raising the profile of the profession. Its objectives are to offer a professional home for language professionals, to promote and uphold standards for professional conduct through training and education, and to increase public recognition of the professions through advocacy and engagement. Individual members include translators, interpreters and language-service project or vendor managers; corporate members include commercial and not-for-profit Language Service Providers and Corporate Education members (UK and overseas higher-education institutions offering translation, interpreting and modern-languages courses). The association maintains an active policy programme covering artificial intelligence, ethics and sustainability, and convened an AI Working Group in 2023 to support members in adapting to generative AI.
