International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics (IAFPA)

Active

Description

The International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics (IAFPA) is the professional association for forensic scientists and researchers who analyse voices, speech and audio recordings. The Association fosters research and provides a forum for the interchange of ideas and information on practice, development and research in forensic phonetics and acoustics, and it sets down and enforces standards of professional conduct and procedure for those involved in forensic speech and audio casework; members are bound by a Code of Practice. Its purpose is to improve the quality and effectiveness of the analysis of voices, speech and audio recordings for forensic, intelligence and security applications. The Association supports an active, open and practically focussed research culture, funds emerging research projects through small research grants, holds an annual conference, contributes to the International Journal of Speech, Language and the Law, and supports students entering the field. Its membership numbers over 120 worldwide, spanning both forensic phonetics and acoustics.
