Welsh Language Society (Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg)

Active

Description

Cymdeithas yr Iaith (the Welsh Language Society) is a membership campaign group working for the Welsh language and the communities of Wales, framing its work as part of a wider struggle for minority rights and freedoms. It campaigns through non-violent direct action (ranging from letter-writing and petitions to protest) for the right of the people of Wales to use Welsh in every aspect of life. Founded in 1962, it organises around four main policy areas: language rights, education, sustainable communities (housing and planning), and media (the devolution of broadcasting powers to Wales). It supports and develops its members to contribute to their communities.
