Craft Cultures Research Cluster
Description
Craft Cultures provides an inclusive forum to explore the multidisciplinary characteristics of craft and its praxis.
Craft Cultures' core objective is to encourage research and understanding into all aspects of craft and making in its diversity, from the creation of the object through the design, technology and material to the role of the object and how it engages and communicates with maker, wearer and audience.
Craft is explored through two main themes of enquiry: ‘Craft Skill’ as the creative endeavour - in the context of: heritage, contemporary practice, traditional and digital innovations, and the sciences; and ‘culture’, the impact of craft as a catalyst for positive change across diverse communities of practice for individual and group health / well-being, as well as benefitting the wider society and economies.
Craft Cultures welcomes researchers and invested partners who can contribute through an exchange of knowledge, expertise and skill to enable the wider facilitation of the discipline, and to promote collaborative interdisciplinary research.
