Dark Mountain

Active

Description

The Dark Mountain Project is a cultural movement that grew out of a manifesto published in 2009 by two English writers. It is a rooted and branching network of creative activity centred on the Dark Mountain journal, sustained by a body of collaborators and contributors and supported by readers around the world. The project sets out to walk away from the cultural stories that obscure the scale of the ecological, social and cultural unravelling now underway; to make art that does not take the centrality of humans for granted; to trace the deep cultural roots of environmental and social crisis; and to seek other stories that help make sense of a time of disruption and uncertainty. Since its first issue in 2010, publishing the journal as a series of hardback and paperback anthologies has been the core activity of the project, alongside a weekly online edition, events, courses and a wider web of collaborations.
