Legal Histories of Empire

Active

Description

Legal Histories of Empire is a recurring international conference series in legal history. The first conference was held in July 2012 at the National University of Singapore, conceived by an emeritus professor at the University of Victoria, Canada. Its founding aim was to foster research into the legal histories of the British Empire, with the emphasis falling on the colonial and post-colonial world rather than on Britain itself. Participants at the inaugural meeting agreed to convene on a regular basis. The remit was subsequently broadened beyond the British Empire to encompass the legal histories of colonies and empires generally; the series retains its original lhbe.org address in reflection of its Singapore origins. Its keynote address is named in honour of the conference's founder.
