Open Clasp Theatre Company
ActiveDescription
Open Clasp Theatre Company is a feminist theatre company based in the North East of England which co-creates theatre with women and girls that calls for gender justice and systemic change. The company's mission is to create theatre that ignites activism and places social, political, and personal change at its heart — "changing the world one play at a time" — in pursuit of gender justice for women and girls. It creates spaces for women, inclusive of trans women and non-binary individuals, to be creative, share and discuss, with women gathering as experts in their lived experience to highlight issues and what needs to change. The company's work is regularly performed in theatres, prisons, schools, conferences, and community centres, and it has developed a digital engagement strategy to reach new audiences. Its high-quality theatre influences opinions, supports academic research, and impacts policy, bringing the lived experience of women and girls into debates, discussions, and professional training delivered using theatre for prison staff, police officers, social workers, and other professionals.
