British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR)
ActiveDescription
The British Institute of Human Rights (BIHR) is a UK-wide human rights charity working to make human rights real for people across the UK through education, advocacy and support. Working with individuals, community groups, public bodies and policy-makers, the Institute shows how the Human Rights Act 1998 can be put into practice in everyday life. As a charity, its primary purpose is the protection and promotion of people's human rights, working beyond the courts: it collaborates with people and community groups on human rights advocacy, supports organisations holding public power to meet their legal duties through human rights approaches, and amplifies real-life evidence of the Act's difference with policy- and law-makers. Its work spans training for individuals, communities and public bodies; experience-informed research grounded in lived experience; and policy projects on protecting the Human Rights Act and embedding human rights in other laws.
