5Rights Foundation
ActiveDescription
5Rights Foundation is an international NGO that works with and for children to build a rights-respecting digital world, driving change to revolutionise the online environment for children and society as a whole. It began as a campaign in 2012, when its founder investigated the impact of technology on children and developed the 5Rights Framework with children; the Foundation itself was established in 2018 to take the mission forward. Its name reflects five interconnected rights, Privacy, Safety, Development, Agency and Participation, which it fights to see respected, protected and fulfilled in the digital environment. It pursues systemic change so the digital world caters for children by design and default, working across advocacy, research, compliance and youth engagement. Its joint Digital Futures for Children centre with the London School of Economics and Political Science is a global hub for research on children's rights in the digital environment. The Foundation states it has never accepted, and will never accept, funding from technology companies.
