Public Law Project (PLP)
ActiveDescription
The Public Law Project (PLP) is a legal and social justice charity that employs specialist lawyers, academics, and researchers to advance fairness in society through public law. It undertakes three coordinated strands of activity: research and policy work; training and support for lawyers and advisers; and legal casework including strategic litigation. Its vision is a fair and inclusive society secured by a just and confident state, achieved by protecting the frontiers of public law, ensuring access to justice for all, and preventing the marginalisation of individuals by those with power. A dedicated priority area on automation and digitalisation examines how public bodies are using algorithms to make decisions, working to improve legal and policy frameworks governing automated decision making (ADM) and to identify and challenge barriers to access to justice arising from digitalisation. PLP maintains the Tracking Automated Government (TAG) register, an open database documenting secretive algorithms used by UK government departments, including the Home Office, Department of Work and Pensions, and the Metropolitan Police.
