History of Law and Governance Centre
Description
Based in the School of Law at the University of Nottingham, the History of Law and Governance Centre promotes and facilitates interdisciplinary research, public engagement and knowledge exchange in the history of law and governance. It provides a focal point for research into the historical development of law, legal institutions and ideas of governance, and a forum for discussion and collaboration between academics working in the field.
Its research ranges across topics such as the medieval origins of the English common law, the law of easements following the Enclosure Acts, the nineteenth-century New Poor Laws and workhouse system, and twentieth-century international treaties and legal doctrine. The centre runs a regular programme of lectures, seminars, workshops and reading groups.
