Lancashire Climate Action Network
Description
Vision, Aim, and Objectives
LancsCAN’s shared VISION – to collaborate together and with others to realise Lancashire’s ambitious and urgent climate action goals. In doing so, make the county a more sustainable, healthy and greener place to live and work, while supporting a thriving economy that is regenerative and socially responsible.
Lancashire Climate Action Network (LancsCAN) was formed in June 2023 following the first Lancashire Community Climate Action Forum event held on 17 May 2023 at Edge Hill University, with SustainNET as the lead organiser.
The main aim of LancsCAN is to mobilise Lancashire’s community voice and action on climate change, working collaboratively with others to advance the county’s climate agenda.
Acknowledging the diversity of challenges faced in creating a sustainable future for all, LancsCAN has been co-developed by its members. It comprises a growing network of community-oriented organisations in Lancashire involved in various climate action fronts, including energy, biodiversity and wildlife, food, green and blue spaces, transport and mobility, housing and buildings, recycling and waste management.
We are seeking to work with Lancashire’s councils and political leaders to realise the climate, environment and other relevant priorities of the Lancashire 2050 Plan.
All three of Lancashire’s universities – Edge Hill University, Lancaster University and University of Central Lancashire – are working together to support LancsCAN’s development.
LancsCAN’s main AIM – to help mobilise Lancashire’s community voice and action on climate change, working collaboratively with others to advance the county’s climate agenda.
Going forward, LancsCAN has the following OBJECTIVES:
- Become an increasingly stronger, larger and effective network of community-oriented organisations in Lancashire working on climate action.
- Develop LancsCAN’s mechanisms for collaboration, community-building and communication, in order to develop its capacities for partnership among its own membership and working with others.
- Inspire and help support all generations and communities within Lancashire to get more involved in climate action efforts
- Work alongside Lancashire’s councils to realise the county’s ambitious, urgent climate action goals.
- To facilitate opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and ideas that enable members to learn from each other and strengthen their position as climate action leaders.
Climate Action Themes
LancsCAN members are working on various climate action ‘themes’, including the following:
- Energy
- Biodiversity and wildlife
- Food
- Health
- Green and Blue spaces
- Transport and mobility
- Climate activism, general
- Youth and schools
- Business and enterprise
- Art and culture
- Resources, recycling and waste
- Housing and buildings
Much of LansCAN’s work is organised around such shared climate action themes, where members have common or overlapping interest and knowledge. Look out for future events, projects and other activities based on these themes
