Camões Centre for Portuguese Language, Leeds

Description

The Camões Centre at Leeds aims to promote and develop Portuguese Studies at the University of Leeds. We host seminar series, academic conferences and workshops designed to promote research in the areas of Language, Literature, History, Cinema, and Portuguese & Lusophone Cultures, within the University of Leeds and beyond.

The Centre also acts as a reference and meeting point for students, researchers and the general public by organising and sponsoring Fusão - a programme of cultural events including talks with authors, film screenings, exhibitions and more, showcasing the cultures of Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking countries.

Our activities are funded by the Camões Institute, and developed in collaboration with other research centres and civic partners.

The Centre's name pays homage to one of the most renowned poets of Portuguese literature, Luís Vaz de Camões (1524 – 1580), author of the epic poem The Lusiads.

Centre Director: Sofia Martinho
Funded by Camões, I.P. (Portugal)
