Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD)
Description
The Technology and Management Centre for Development (TMCD) aims to tackle vital technology and management issues encountered by public and private policymakers. The Centre also serves as a global hub for advanced interdisciplinary research on technology and management applications in the developing world.
Innovations in technology and management have often been seen as products of development within the realm of international development. However, compared to prominent topics like extreme poverty, hunger, and inadequate healthcare systems in low-income countries, the significant role of technology and management in the development process has not received adequate attention.
TMCD seeks to provide evidence for the use of technology and innovation as tools for development, rather than just outcomes, and advocates for prioritising this approach in international development practice.
TMCD houses various ongoing research projects and event series. Its broad research themes encompass:
- Industrial policy and industrialisation
- Indigenous innovations, technological capabilities, and competitiveness
- International technology diffusion
- Innovation policy, strategy, and management
- Public, social, and inclusive innovations
- Environmental innovation for sustainable development
- International trade, foreign direct investment, and economic growth
- Corporate and public management capabilities in developing countries
TMCD also oversees doctoral research students affiliated with ODID and hosts a program for visiting fellows.
