Oxford Centre for Religion and Culture
Description
The Centre was established in 1994 with the primary goal of promoting the development of a Christian intellect through critical engagement between faith and culture.
On 18th January 2021, the Centre was relaunched. Its mission is to critically explore the intersection of religion and culture across various communities, contexts, and nations.
This includes:
- Encouraging theological studies alongside other disciplines
- Facilitating the integration of religious and cultural insights into other fields of study
- Advancing research in interdisciplinary religious and cultural studies
- Cultivating culturally aware religious leaders
- Promoting critical thinking on practical and ethical issues related to religion and culture
To achieve these objectives, the Centre:
- Appoints Research Associates who specialise in interdisciplinary religious and cultural studies
- Supports Postgraduate Scholars pursuing research degrees at the University of Oxford
- Organises conferences and public lectures featuring distinguished scholars and practitioners
- Publishes materials derived from its events.
