Jurisprudence in Oxford Research Group
Description
The Jurisprudence at Oxford Research Group aims to explore all areas of law and their foundations and application in society. They organise the Philosophy, Law and Politics (PLP) Colloquium, featuring experts from around the world, as well as the H.L.A. Hart Memorial Lecture and contribute to hosting the Distinguished Hart Visitor. Jurisprudence is a distinct field of study that encompasses moral, political, social, and legal philosophy.
It utilises various branches of philosophy to investigate questions regarding communal living and the understanding of societal institutions. Oxford has been a prominent centre for jurisprudence since H.L.A. Hart assumed the role of Professor of Jurisprudence in 1952. Even after seven decades, the University of Oxford remains a leader in this field, housing the largest group of jurisprudence scholars globally, engaged in research projects of significant breadth and depth.
