Russian and East European Studies (REES)
Description
Russian and East European Studies (REES) constitutes an academic division within the Oxford School of Global Area Studies. The scholars, postgraduates, post-doctoral fellows, and academic visitors affiliated with REES investigate the region encompassing Russia, the former Soviet Union republics in Eurasia, and the Eastern European nations that were once part of the twentieth-century socialist bloc. Employing methodologies and insights from diverse social sciences and humanities disciplines, as well as language proficiency focused on the region, they delve into the histories, societies, politics, economies, and international relations of this significant area, which increasingly influences the global community.
The courses offered by REES cater to graduates seeking a comprehensive understanding of Russia and Eastern Europe through interdisciplinary study encompassing subjects such as history, politics, economics, international relations, society, and culture. The REES curriculum includes a 21-month MPhil in Russian and East European Studies, a 9-month MSc in Russian and East European Studies, and a DPhil (doctorate) in Area Studies, open to outstanding students. For those interested in combining their study of Russian and East European Studies with business administration, the Oxford 1 + 1 MBA program integrates the MSc in Russian and East European Studies with the MBA program offered by the Said Business School. Additionally, REES warmly welcomes inquiries from prospective Academic Visitors at the post-doctoral level and Recognised Students pursuing doctoral degrees, who wish to join the community temporarily as visiting scholars.
