Contemporary China Studies Programme (CCSP)
Description
The Contemporary China Studies Programme forms part of the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies at the University of Oxford. Established in 2002 with a generous grant from the Leverhulme Trust, it serves as a vibrant hub for studying and researching various aspects of contemporary China and Chinese society. The programme brings together expertise and scholarship on China from diverse social science disciplines, including economics, politics, international relations, sociology, anthropology, and Chinese history. It facilitates collaboration among students, post-doctoral research fellows, and faculty members from across the university, as well as with academics, researchers, and policymakers worldwide who share a passion for studying contemporary China and producing interdisciplinary research of great significance.
The MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies (formerly the MSc in Modern Chinese Studies) of the programme annually admits over 20 exceptionally talented students to Oxford, providing high-quality graduate research training for individuals seeking to enhance their understanding of contemporary China. Applications are welcome from recent graduates as well as professionals returning to academia. The programme organises frequent seminars, workshops, colloquia, and conferences to foster the development, sharing, and dissemination of the latest ideas and insights on China. It also hosts visiting academics from around the world who seek access to Oxford's unparalleled research resources in Chinese studies. A limited number of fellowships and other forms of financial support are available for postgraduate students focusing on the study of contemporary China within the social sciences.
