Centre for Theology and Modern European Thought
Description
CTMET was established in 2007 and is located in the Faculty of Theology and Religion at Oxford University. Its primary purpose is to encourage interdisciplinary research on the connections between theology and other intellectual domains, while also serving as an educational resource for teaching in both theology and other fields.
The term "Modern European thought" refers to the period from the late eighteenth century to the present, encompassing various aspects of this era's intellectual history.
CTMET's activities primarily focus on exploring the relationship between Christian theology and philosophical ideologies stemming from Kant, the German Idealists, Marx, existentialism, phenomenology, hermeneutics, post-structuralism, and other contemporary movements. It aims to support research in diverse disciplines and areas related to these developments, including systematic and historical theology, philosophy of religion, social and political studies, art, history, and literature.
