Centre for the Study of Lifelong Language Learning
Description
The Centre for Lifelong Language Learning was established in January 2007 and maintains close connections with the Department of Education along with several research members and students enrolled in applied linguistics and related subjects.
The Centre aims to strengthen ties between the College and university departments, enhancing collaboration in teaching and research. Its primary objective is to advance scholarship and research in areas of language learning and teaching that have traditionally received limited attention. Specifically, it focuses on mature learners' acquisition of foreign languages in formal and informal environments.
By integrating academic and research interests, the Centre explores various perspectives to identify strategies for enhancing and supporting lifelong language learning among both mature and younger learners. It particularly emphasizes providing assistance to individuals who may not possess inherent language learning abilities or have lacked opportunities such as international travel, exposure to foreign cultures, or adequate educational support earlier in life.
Additionally, the Centre promotes research to advance the comprehension of lifelong language learning, leveraging both traditional technologies (e.g., television/radio) and modern technologies (e.g., social media, online resources, gaming).
